Greeted by a helpful staff, Mr Billah who is very patient to explain checkin information and car park lots to us.
Room is superbly clean and new. Room interior design is mainly wood and has a homely feel. Spacious for 4 adults. Superior Twin sharing bed has 2 double bed (slightly smaller than a Queen bed, may be more suitable for small size Asians) and a sofa bed. The room is 28 sqm. It has a beautiful Matsumoto ball (Temari ) encased in a piece glass.
The bathroom is nice, clean and spacious, like a mini Osen bath. A separate room with door for toilet, a bathroom (shower area with stool, a bathtub). A notice indicated that the door needs to be closed when bathing as steam will activate the fire alarm. The sink has a full glass mirror and lighting is perfect for makeup. It even has a vanity stool for make up like in an onsen. It has an automated sensor tap.
There’s a humidifier and air freshener.
Room comes with complimentary use of UCC coffee/earl grey/green tea pods machine in the room. We were given coffee & earl grey pods. Daily bottled drinking water.

Booked a room for 4 but was given a twin room plus 2 extra beds. The room itself was already not too big and after putting in 2 extra beds, make it even smaller. Hardly any space to walk or to open our luggage bags.

Matsumoto castle was lovely to see at night. The Yayoi Kusama exhibition at the Matsumoto City Museum of Art is permanent and the outside is gorgeous but the exhibit itself was disappointingly small compared to the one in Tokyo. My favourite is the temporary exhibit of the artworks of Yasuka Sudou, an artist who died young of cancer at the age of 30. Her works interplay light and darkness and are technically impressive and emotionally touching.

We stayed at Hotel Kagetsu which is just a few minutes walk from the castle. The castle is def worth a visit. If you go to the top there are very steep stairs. We ate at two local restaurants. I can recommend the tiny tonkatsu restaurant which is just 50m down the road from the hotel. A taxi from the station takes 10 mins and costs 1000 yen.

The castle is beautiful, the local shopping streets are lovely and had variety. The Matsumoto City Museum of Art is fantastic for Yayoi Kusama lovers.
A nice quiet city after the throng of Tokyo, slower paced.

Good place to stay for access to the mountains.
Good place to stay for access to the mountains. The town is small but has good facilities including some big shops. There are a few restaurants but many close early and some are not easily accessible for people who don’t speak Japanese

A city to stay in for day trips!
A city to stay in for day trips! Matsumoto is welcoming and kind. Not too much to do in the city itself (I think one day is enough). we were in Matsumoto for 3 nights, on the first day came from Alpine route, on the second day we went to Kamikochi, on the third day to Kiso Valley. the 4th day was super rainy - was good for a museum + shopping mall + movie + massage. Enjoy!

Matsumoto is a mid-size city with several attractions, with its castle being the most famous. Areas around the castle are great for walking, while a bit further away are several parks that offer nice walks and views of the city and surrounding mountains. There are several areas with restaurants and cafes that are lively in the evening, including near the main train station. If you have a car, places to visit near the city include the Venus Line, a popular mountain drive offering fantastic vistas when the weather is good, and Kamikochi with its beautiful view of Japan's Alps, as well as historic small towns such as Narai-juki and Hida Takayama.
The ryokan has an excellent shuttle service from Matsumoto station to the hotel. They also have a shuttle service to go to kamikochi, and they also offer a way back to Matsumoto. Súper useful and efficient. The amount of food is amazing and the quality was super good. They explained to us how to eat and deal with everything. Onsen hours are really long and great. The onsen is quite big and outside is amazing. The place is quiet with nice views.
The hotel is opposite to Matsumoto station. It’s easy to go to Kamikoji and other attractions: Matsumoto castle, etc. They provide the guideline - how to travel to Kamikoji. For the room, it’s so clean, not too small and has a hair dryer. The restroom has bath hub and the body shampoo, hair shampoo and conditioner of DHC. I really like them. Moreover, I love their breakfast although they are not various but they are good taste ❤️
The hotel is a typical Japanese business hotel. Rather small rooms but clean and comfy. It is about a 10 minute walk from the train station (turn left after exiting and follow main road until reaching the hotel on left). Although a bit of a walk from the train station, Matsumoto castle is just a very short walk away.
Breakfast was a simple, western style buffet with some rolls, coffee, and soup.
Location: between the station and the castle, so perfect.
Bedroom : old school, very nice, comfortable and clean. Plenty of light.
WiFi : free and powerful
Bathroom: perfect water pressure, shower and tub, all amenities no exception
Breakfast : Meiji style room, there is everything : japanese and western.
Staff : couldn’t be better.
Cleanliness : spotless perfection
Hotel is conveniently located near to the Castle and to the famous streets in Matsumoto. In 20 mins walking you can be in the train station. Rooms are big for Japanese standards, and beds very Conformable Breakfast is very complete with variety of options. The public baths are also good and convenient. Front desk team is very helpful and speaks good english
Very affordable hotel located 2 min walk from the train station, just perfect for our one night stay in Matsumoto. The castle is just 15 min stroll from the hotel.
The hotel offers breakfast included in the room price, which was a very nice surprise and kind of unexpected.
More than any of the positives, the staff is very courteous and helpful.
We had an amazing time. The place is a small ryokan, with only 4 rooms so it very intimate and beautiful. It felt so authentic and truly Japanese. The shower and bath are clean and have hot water. Our room was nice and had ac, the futon was very comfortable. The food was great and most importantly the staff was kind and helped us with everything.
Close to the station (castle exit), convenient stores not too far from the hotel, walking distance from Matsumoto castle (about 20 minutes).
The hotel is a bit old but really well maintained, staff are friendly and helpful. Shared bath is very nice :)
Coin laundry and dryer in the hotel.
Room for a single person is a very decent size
Japanese styled modern hotel, with a nice small Onsen at the roof top. Rooms and bath rooms are on the smaller side. Breakfast is very substantial with many choices (Japanese style, not Western). In between a "business hotel" and a medium classed Ryokan. Location is good - 10 minutes walk to the center/train station.
An exceptional ryokan - it incorporates both elegance and warmth. Amazing Japanese Kaiseki cuisine experience! Best ryokan meal experience I have ever had. Picturesque open onsen and available on private reservations too. Excellent staff - they are very thoughtful and helpful.
It was very central and the room was spacious for a family. Breakfast was good as well. Service was great and the staff very kind and helpful! In general the area of the hotel was wonderful. Close to the Matsumoto Castle and there was also a convenience store nearby.
The location was further from the station than we realised but was close to the Castle which was a wonderful experience.
The Art Museum was also a worthwhile visit as the world famous Matsumoto-born artist Kusama Yayoi has a permanent exhibition.
- Centrally located just 5-7 minutes from Matsumoto Station.
- Immaculately clean.
- Room size was slightly bigger vs our room in Tokyo.
- Nice breakfast.
- Check in time was 14PM, which is earlier vs other hotels we stayed in other cities.
The capsules were very comfy and I was able to sleep well. The hotel was very clean and modern. The location is also very convenient for accessing the train station. I will definitely stay here again on my next visit to Matsumoto!
Excellent location, opposite Matsumoto train station and next to Bus terminals ..Check in 10F , free welcome drinks, tea and coffee . Friendly staff.. Convenient store on the ground floors. .Lots of eateries around the hotel
This hotel with friendly staff offers clean (bath)rooms, good beds and a tasty, extensive breakfast buffet. It's located close to Matsumoto train station and thus a good starting point to explore to region.
Convenient location, close to Matsumoto Station
Free ramen or waffle ice cream as supper is very nice gesture of the hotel
Staffs are friendly and helpful
Varieties of breakfast are great!
The food was an amazing experience - definitely the best food we had at a Ryokan in Japan. Location was perfect - best area of town and only a short walk from the station. High value for money.
We came to Matsumoto to explore the castle. This hotel was located both close to the train station and to the castle. As a bonus, there were plenty of restaurants close by.
